Understanding Your Puppy’s Breed Needs

Each breed has its own specific needs, whether it's exercise, grooming, or dietary requirements. I’ll help you understand your puppy’s breed-specific traits so you can provide the best care possible.

Leaving your puppy alone

Puppies are much like babies—they need to feel the comfort of their owners' presence. When they’re young, they can struggle with being left alone, even for short periods of time. I will help you gently introduce your puppy to the idea of being on their own, so they learn to feel comfortable and secure, making it easier for you to leave them when necessary.

Crate Training

Crates can be a great tool to help puppies settle in and provide them with a safe space to eat, rest, and sleep. Crate training involves teaching your puppy to use a crate as their own secure area. It’s designed to be a safe place for your puppy when you can’t supervise them, such as at night while you’re sleeping.

A crate also gives your puppy a designated area where they can retreat to when they need some time to rest. Just like us, puppies need their own space to relax and unwind.

Puppy teething and biting

All puppies go through a teething and biting phase. As they lose their baby teeth and grow in their adult teeth, they may start chewing on furniture, shoes, or household items to relieve discomfort. There are several things you can do to help your teething puppy and protect your belongings!

It’s important to note that chewing and biting may not always be related to teething. Sometimes, puppies mouth objects, much like children use their hands to explore the world. Mouthing is a common and normal behavior in young puppies and is usually not aggressive. However, it’s essential to teach them to be gentle and avoid nipping or biting.

If your puppy's mouthing seems excessive, it could be a sign of pain or discomfort, such as from tummy upset or gut issues. If you notice that the mouthing is more intense than usual, it’s a good idea to consult your vet for a check-up.

Make sure your puppy has plenty of appropriate chew toys to help soothe their teeth and keep them focused on the right things.

Whatever challenges or questions arise, I’m here to make the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible for both you and your new puppy.
